Silmarillion: The Good Parts Version 13 by spiegelscherben Silmarillion: The Good Parts Version 13 by spiegelscherben
I think I now know what that crown is. It's the FŽanorean Idiot Ball.

Original quote:
But even in the hour of the death of FŽanor an embassy came to his sons from Morgoth, acknowledging defeat, and offering terms, even to the surrender of a Silmaril. Then Maedhros the tall, the eldest son, persuaded his brothers to feign to treat with Morgoth, and to meet his emissaries at the place appointed; but the Noldor had as little thought of faith as had he. Wherefore each embassy came with greater force than was agreed; but Morgoth sent the more, and there were Balrogs. Maedhros was ambushed, and all his company were slain; but he himself was taken alive by the command of Morgoth, and brought to Angband.

rofl This is great!!!  Yup, Maedhros was really stupid at this point. I like it how the brothers get behind Maedhros with a yikes when the orc shows up. They mostly got into trouble without their big brother.

"BALROG BALROG BALROG" --Aaaand with that I died laughing.

But yeah, did they /know/ that a Balrog was what killed Feanor? Cuz you'd think that if they had, Maedhros would have realized that bringing a bodyguard of elves wouldn't be enough. Drat, now I'm actually seriously pondering this

*looks it up* Oh yes, they knew it. Right after where my quote ends:
There he would have perished, had not his sons in that moment come up with force to his aid; and the Balrogs left him, and departed to Angband.

So yes... Maedhros was definitely holding the Idiot Ball at that point.

Aw, thanks for the quote! I am without my copy of The Silmarillion when I'm at college and so couldn't look it up, grr. Hahaha, poor Maedhros.

You know, the first time I saw one of your "Silmarillion: The Good Parts", it was sort of a guilty pleasure. I was firmly determined not to find this funny.

Until now.

So say it in the words of the Enemy:

"I surrender!
XOXO
Morgoth"

:D
