Silmarillion: The Good Parts Version 16 by spiegelscherben Silmarillion: The Good Parts Version 16 by spiegelscherben
"All princes, no subjects".

I prefer one-off comics where you don't have to know the entire history (or at least have read the rest of the comic to know who those people are), but sometimes you can't avoid them. This chapter is so chock-full of names you really have to take notes to figure out who is who and why they don't like each other.

Original quote:
For Maedhros begged forgiveness for the desertion in Araman; and he waived his claim to kingship over all the Noldor, saying to Fingolfin: 'If there lay no grievance between us, lord, still the kingship would rightly come to you, the eldest here of the house of FinwŽ, and not the least wise.' But to this his brothers did not all in their hearts agree.
[...]
Now King Thingol welcomed not with a full heart the coming of so many princes in might out of the West, eager for new realms; and he would not open his kingdom, nor remove its girdle of enchantment, for wise with the wisdom of Melian he trusted not that the restraint of Morgoth would endure.

It did take me some time to figure out who is who! Great job, anyway ^-^

I have to just say that I like ruddy-faced Caranthir. So much.

FŽanor's sons, Fingolfin and Fingon, and Finrod coming by in the third panel. Pretty much a who's who of house FinwŽ. :D

Oh, yes. ^^; I'm not that versed anymore, it's years ago I read the Silmarillion. But thanks for telling me. :)

Oh dear, I should reread the relevant parts. I can't remember who's the one who built a kingdom near the sea...
Also, who is the one holding Galadriel's hand? Is it supposed to be Finrod?

It's Finrod.
And that's not Galadriel, it's Melian and Thingol who wonder why all those people came here and who made THEM kings :)

(as I was saying. This is a chapter where you really need that family tree next to the book...)

Ahhhh... I forgot this one. I keep imagining Melian as black haired, this blonde elleth is automatically Galadriel for me. :)
But now I see you point. :evillaugh:

Hmm, maybe she was black-haired. I didn't really check the description to be honest.
But she's not an elleth, no long ears, see? :D

I'm not sure there is a description; it's just that most of the fanarts I've seen depict her as a black haired person.
Hehe. Technically, it's said the Valar took the forms of Elves occasionally. I think Melian took the elven form, too, permanently. Anyway, her ears are simply hidden behind her hair. ;p

Well, considering her daughter I do agree that dark hair would make more sense - although of course with the daughter of a Maiar, anything is possible :)

I suppose that's why people originally thought so. You have to admit a black-haired daughter of two relatively-fair-haired people would seem weird.

BTW, I love your avatar. Great game!

Ah, the only people who can approach FŽanor in the "total jerk" category are his sons. :( Except Maedhros and Maglor...they're relatively all right. :P

They might be total jerks, but they still are the coolest (and by far the most interesting) elves JRRT has ever written...:-]
House of FŽanor 加油!!!

I don't know, I'm kind of a Fingolfin fan myself. ;) And Aradhel is pretty cool, too.

Not that much of a Fingolfin fan. He's okay and so are his kids (esp. Aredhel, she's deinitely my fave she-elf) - I like the whole Noldorin bunch a lot - but FŽanorians challenge the whole damn *paradigm* so well...:-) The way they stick to their guns and that "yeah, whatever, *bite me*" attitude just won me over. I do prefer Maedhros's constructive approach, but I have a soft spot for the whole family...

That is true that FŽanor and his brats challenge the whole "elves are nigh on perfect" idea we get from Lord of the Rings. :P They're definitely some of Tolkien's better thought out characters (well, except Amrod and Amras, of whom all we get is that they're twins and apparently like to hunt) at any rate.

It's not just the "elves are nigh on perfect" thing. They are the middle finger stuck out at everything Arda is made of in terms of morals and ethics. They play according to their own set of rules and that set of rules is very...pre-Christian.
Their fates ultimately do confirm the above-mentioned paradigm, of course, as they all pay high price for not playing along with the rest of the world (they're basically there to be made an example of...:-)) but it's THEM that make the FA so bloody interesting...:)

(Anyway, the comic strip is quite hilarious, as usual...:-))

Maedhros is normally the brains of the outfit... unless he's holding the idiot ball, that is. As it were. :)

And has less of a tendency towards, "Hey, guys, let's kill everyone!" ;) As opposed to, say, Curufin or Caranthir or Celegorm. Especially Caranthir. :/
